If you’re anything like me, busy is the default response to a question of what I’ve been up to lately. The answer is rooted sometimes in laziness to provide a real response and other times in actual truth. Sometimes, at least to me, it seems that life is moving at such a quick pace that I cannot hardly keep up.
I recently had the opportunity to read Breaking Busy: How to Find Peace & Purpose in a World of Crazy by Alli Worthington. I knew who Alli was from If:Equip videos, but hadn’t read much of her writing before this book. I wasn’t sure what to anticipate going into reading it, but I never turn down the opportunity to pre-read a book!
I was sure that I would probably gain some good reminders or encouragement from this, but I wasn’t prepared for just how much this book impacted my life. Alli’s words are full of so much wisdom and truth. Her honest and vulnerable approach to the ways she learned to let go of busy in her life, through steps that didn’t even seem to make sense sometimes, were so fresh. I found myself struggling to find sentences that I didn’t want to highlight or remember later and made all sorts of personal notes in the margins of each book.
As I read along I found myself realizing that I, as Alli writes it, “allow our circumstances to dictate our actions, good and bad.” That I, like probably many of you, find myself allowing what’s happening around me to shape what’s happening around me. That I don’t give enough weight to my own yeses and no’s in life.
Breaking Busy has been a sweet whisper of sanity to my mind as I start to think and pray more seriously about what yeses and no’s should look like. What are the things that important and what lack of belief in the Lord is festering unacknowledged sins in my life.
I think Breaking Busy is a must read for anyone looking for a little more peace and purpose in the day to day. It just released today and you can find it for just $10 (right now) on Amazon. Also, because I love this book so much, I’m giving away two copies to faithful blog readers! See the drawing below to enter!
PS- I was provided a advanced copy of Breaking Busy in turn for promising to share about the book. I didn’t have to promise to like it, so my review is honest! I also a received a free copy of the book for purchasing one- so one copy of the giveaway I paid for, the other was provided by the publisher, Zondervan.
