It’s October 15th, which means we are basically halfway through October and the Write 31 Days challenge. I started this challenge as a way to force myself out of a writing slump and get reacquainted with a love of mine that I’ve tabled for a while. My goal was simply to write everyday. If what I wrote was worth sharing, fantastic, double bonus.
This experience has been challenging for a number of reasons.
It’s perpetually a busy season at work which makes it difficult to find writing time naturally. I have to prioritize it and plan it. Like most important things in life, writing time doesn’t just happen. It must be chosen, fought for and planned.
It’s also been personally challenging to find the worth in my own story and words. I love reading, hearing and talking about stories. But sometimes I, like probably many of you, have a hard time seeing why what I have to share matters. This writing journey is slowly teaching me that sharing even the most mundane part of my life with another person gives them the chance to say “me too”.
Through the last 15 days of writing daily, I’ve learned that not everything is sharable but everything deserves to be written. Words are not always meant for others, but they are always meant to be. Here’s to the next 15 days and the words that will be.
