It’s no secret to those who know me that I love Pinterest. It’s my go to place to find just about anything- recipes, craft instructions, cleaning solutions, home décor ideas, etc. I have participated in Pinterest Group Craft Parties (words capitalized so I don’t feel so lame). I’ve even gone so far as to find a way to use Pinterest at work. (So far the people most excited about our office Pinterest account are myself and my student’s moms. Not sure what’s up with that.)
It seems that a lot of people look at Pinterest and “pin” things that they want to try or remember but never actually do anything with it. I, however, make a general effort to actually use the information that I save on the wonderful site. In an effort to win others over to my pinning side (and again feel a little less lame) I will be posting more often to show you successful Pinterest projects I’ve tried. Check back here each Friday for a new one!
This week, allow me to introduce you to my all-time favorite Pinterest win- magic stain remover. This post caught my eye with the tag line “Stain remover that removes the yellow underarm stains”. I live in the south (read: hot and humid) and believe in wearing white shirts during the summer. I clicked the link and found something pretty simple. I had all the ingredients at home and gave it a shot.
The stain remover calls for mixing one part Dawn dish detergent (of the blue variety) with two parts hydrogen peroxide. One variation also includes adding a bit of baking soda for added scrubbing powder.
I pulled out my grubbiest white tops including my two white takes I wear under just about everything. I mixed the solution in a bowl then put it on the stains then let it sit for a bit and threw it in the wash. I’m not going to lie- my expectations were low. My experience was that you could shout just about anything out, and shout never really worked on these things.
Miracle of all miracles it worked. It was truly magical.
Since making this discovery I use this solution for any stains on any color clothing item. A few months ago I washed a white tank with my towels including a very old red one that had been washed a million times. The red towel still bled and left me with a pink tank top. About a month later I mixed up a batch of the miracle cleaner and rewashed that tank. The result? A white tank.
I told my parents about this and they tried it. My mom spills everything on her shirts (as it turns out the older I get the more like her I become. At least once a week I get coffee on something). This miracle solution took all the stains right out.
If you are looking for a sure start on trying Pinterest ideas this one is the winner!
