Modern Mrs. Darcy (who’s real name is Anne) is hosting a “link up” today that encourages her readers to share the best book we’ve read that others have never heard of. As soon as I read the call to post and link up one book sprang to mind: A Pearl in the Storm by Tori Murden McClure. Since Anne and Tori are both Louisvillians participating is a no-brainer!
When I was a freshman in high school Tori, (just Murden then) came to speak to us. She had just returned from her successful row across the Atlantic Ocean. It was a journey we all watched and heard updates about on the news as often as they could. We all wanted to know if the hometown, Kentucky girl would make history. I don’t remember much about her time with us in the old Sacred Heart gym, but I remember being amazed at her description of how big a whale was in comparison to the room we were in. It was hard to wrap my mind around all that lay out there in the world.
Around Easter my mom sent me a package and included a copy of Tori’s book on her adventures. The stories and details Tori shares left me hanging on the edge of my seat (figuratively of course) and I found myself staying up until 3 or 4 a.m. reading because I just didn’t want to put it down. Even though I knew better, I found myself sometimes wondering if she made it through the harrowing trip alive.
If you are looking for an easy to read book loaded with quality adventure, you should pick this up. You can find it here for Kindle or paperback. I promise you won’t regret it!
